Theater Resources Unlimited (TRU) celebrated some of the most influential figures in American theater at its 2026 TRU Love Benefit in Manhattan, spotlighting industry leadership, digital innovation, and philanthropic impact within the performing arts sector.

Held at The Green Room 42, the annual fundraiser titled Changing Hearts… the Power of Theater drew a near capacity audience of producers, performers, investors, and arts supporters. The event highlighted TRU’s ongoing mission to mentor theater professionals and strengthen the business ecosystem behind live performance.

Tony Award-winning performer Tonya Pinkins received the TRU Humanitarian Award, recognizing her decades of advocacy, social impact work, and artistic achievements. Pinkins has been widely recognized for using her platform to promote inclusion and equality while delivering acclaimed performances on stage and screen.

Broadway producing partners Bonnie Comley and Stewart F. Lane were presented with the TRU Spirit of Theater Award for their long-standing contributions to the industry. The duo has produced numerous Broadway productions and co-founded BroadwayHD, a streaming platform that distributes professionally filmed stage productions globally, expanding access to theatrical content and opening new revenue streams for producers.

The benefit also honored the legacy of the late producer Jack W. Batman, a respected TRU advisory board member known for his transatlantic theater production work.

Following a networking reception and luncheon, guests attended a curated musical tribute, directed by Jonathan S. Cerullo and music-directed by Clare Cooper. Performances featured selections from productions associated with the honorees, including La Cage aux Folles, The Will Rogers Follies, Jelly’s Last Jam, and Caroline, or Change, culminating in a dramatic monologue from A Raisin in the Sun.

Attendees also participated in a pledge drive supporting TRU’s mentorship programs, scholarships for emerging producers, and educational initiatives designed to sustain the pipeline of theater professionals.

Industry observers note that events like the TRU Love Benefit reflect a broader shift in the entertainment business, where traditional stage production increasingly intersects with digital distribution, philanthropy, and talent development. By fostering new producers and expanding audience access through platforms such as BroadwayHD, the honorees’ work demonstrates how theater continues to evolve as both an artistic and economic force.

As Broadway and regional theater navigate changing consumer habits and rising production costs, organizations such as TRU are positioning mentorship, innovation, and collaboration as essential investments in the future of live entertainment.
