It can be very unsettling to lose your job and to think that you may not have the money that you need to provide for your family and put food on the table. However, once you get past the initial shock, you can find ways to make extra money as you look for a new full-time job. Here at Markets Herald, we help people understand the markets and how they can make and save money for the future, so we have some tips for how you can make ends meet until you find a solution to your job woes.

Side Gigs That Almost Anyone Can Do

If you need to start making money immediately, then you can consider a side gig. While it may not make you rich, you can work the hours that you want and make enough money to stay afloat until you find a more permanent solution. Many side gigs don’t require any unique experience. For instance, you could drive your car for a food delivery service, a restaurant, or a retail organization like Amazon.

Other common side gigs include:

  • Working as a transcriptionist for a video company
  • Taking online surveys
  • Reselling thrift items
  • Babysitting
  • Dog Walking
  • Cleaning houses
  • Washing cars
  • Doing lawn work for neighbors

If you own your home, you could also consider renting out a room or even the entire property as an Airbnb. Keep in mind that you will need to sign up and get insurance, but it could be an easy way to make some extra money.

Side Gigs for Creative People

While just about anyone can do most side gigs, if you consider yourself to be a creative person, then you may find that there are some jobs that you can do that others cannot. For example, if you are a pro with the written word, then you could become a freelance writer that writes product descriptions and articles for other companies, or you could start your own blog and try to monetize it.

If you are good at music and playing instruments, then you could work as a tutor either in person or online. If you are really good at what you do then you could even start your own YouTube channel and monetize your videos.

Those who are creative and have an eye for design may also find that work as a freelance interior designer can also be very rewarding. This is a great side gig because it allows you to bring your problem-solving skills to the homes of your clients and find ways that you can improve their living space. While you can start your design career from scratch, you may find more success if you get certified. It is a great idea because this certification will allow you to build your reputation, earn more money, and get more job opportunities. If your career takes off and you want to join a senior interior design firm, then they may require that you be certified.

If All Else Fails, Start a Business Through an LLC

While you are working your side hustles, you may find the inspiration to start a company of your own. Think about some of the skills that you have brought to your past jobs and create a way to make them profitable for yourself.

So, for example, if you worked in IT at your previous job but were laid off, then you could start your own technology company where you sell antivirus software or help companies set up their databases. If you were a sales professional at your last job, you could create your own product and use your expertise to sell your goods to the public, so you get all of the profits. These are just a few examples. Consider your own personal experience when deciding the type of company you want to start.

Once you make your decision, you will want to properly form your business, and if you are like many entrepreneurs, then you might form a limited liability corporation. An LLC is a great idea because it is much less complicated than other structures, and there is a lot less paperwork to wade through. Plus, you get great benefits come tax time. If this is your first business, then you may not be well versed on the rules of your state, so consider hiring a formation service to help you get set up, so you stay in compliance.

As you can see, there are many different ways that you can make money as you look for a new job. Consider finding work as an interior designer or a delivery driver, or just start your own business with the help of an LLC. Whatever you do, we wish you luck.
