Assemblywoman Nikki Lucas, who represents the 60th Assembly District, covering East New York, Starrett City as well as parts of Brownsville and Canarsie, is bringing back the popular Easter Hat Pageant, to the district, in partnership with Congressman Hakeem Jeffries.
Assemblywoman Nikki Lucas stated, “COVID hurt our community in so many ways, as socializing among our seniors became non-existent. It is crucial that we get back to creating opportunities for our seniors to connect with one another through positive engagement. The Easter Hat Pageant is one of those events that everyone enjoyed and looked forward to.”
The Easter Hat Pageant, which will be held Thursday April 6, 2023, at the Brooklyn Sports Club, is a free event for seniors in the 60th Assembly District. Seniors can participate to model their favorite Easter hat, or they can just come out to enjoy the food, entertainment, connect with longtime friends and watch the Easter hat fashion show.
This will be the first time in three years that the pageant will take place, and the first time Assemblywoman Lucas will be hosting it as an elected official. She founded the event when she was a general community member who was always advocating on behalf of seniors.
Assemblywoman Lucas added, “when I started this event in 2017 the goal was to provide seniors with opportunities to socialize and have a great day out. We also make sure there are senior resources available. Now, more than ever, we need events like this to keep everyone connected, and I urge senior agencies to partner with us to bring resource information to seniors. I am excited that we are able to bring it back to the community.”
