Plastic was once hailed as a revolutionary invention. Created in the early 1900s to replace natural materials like ivory and tortoiseshell, it quickly became indispensable across industries. Yet, what began as a solution has become one of the planet’s most pressing environmental challenges. Today, plastic production exceeds that of nearly all man-made materials, trailing only steel and cement—and it’s projected to rise by 40% in the next decade.

Every single day, the equivalent of 2,000 garbage trucks full of plastic enter our oceans, rivers, and lakes. Each year, an estimated 19 to 23 million tonnes of plastic waste leak into aquatic ecosystems, wreaking havoc on biodiversity and human health alike.

In the face of this crisis, Jussi Saloranta has emerged as a driving force for change. As the CEO and founder of Corsair Group International, he is leading a bold effort to transform how we tackle plastic pollution and environmental degradation. While many organizations talk about sustainability, Corsair is doing the work on the ground and at scale.

Founded in 2020, Corsair Group International was born from a clear and urgent vision: to develop scalable, business-driven solutions to global environmental problems. At the time, Saloranta, a Finnish entrepreneur based in Bangkok, saw an opportunity to create a company that could balance environmental responsibility with economic viability. Rather than relying solely on donations or government aid, Corsair set out to build a profitable model that turns waste into value.

Today, Corsair Group International employs more than 100 people across its operations in Thailand and the Netherlands. From its global headquarters in Bangkok and its European base in Amsterdam, the company leads a consortium of businesses dedicated to environmental recovery. Its core focus: removing plastic waste from the environment while setting new standards for transparency and impact measurement.

To date, Corsair Group International has successfully removed millions of kilograms of plastic waste from the environment—an achievement that speaks to its broader mission. Beyond beach clean-ups, Corsair tackles systemic waste management challenges in regions most affected by pollution.

But Saloranta’s vision doesn’t stop with plastics. Corsair also addresses air and water pollution, as well as broader climate change mitigation strategies. The company collaborates with academic institutions, governments, and global partners to scale innovative technologies and introduce circular economy solutions that make a real, lasting impact.

In 2025, Corsair Group International reached a new milestone with the launch of the Corsair Plastic Waste Removal Standard (CPRS). Developed in partnership with Control Union Certifications (CUC)—a global leader in sustainability audits—CPRS sets a new bar for how plastic waste recovery is tracked, verified, and credited.

CPRS is more than a label. It provides full traceability for recovered plastic waste, from collection to processing, ensuring that claims about environmental impact are rooted in measurable action. For businesses looking to make credible sustainability claims, CPRS offers a clear, trusted framework.

The CPRS is now the backbone of Corsair’s CSR Plastic Credit program, which issues verified credits for recovered plastic waste. These credits are traded in multiple global markets, allowing companies to offset their plastic footprint while supporting real-world cleanup efforts. It’s a market-based solution that aligns financial incentives with environmental action—something Saloranta sees as essential for large-scale impact.

A Clear Vision with Global Reach

Corsair’s ambition doesn’t stop at a few million kilos of plastic. The company aims to scale up to over one billion kilograms of waste processed annually. To get there, Saloranta is building partnerships with governments, technology providers, and financial institutions. Corsair isn’t just cleaning up—it’s creating infrastructure for a cleaner future.

This includes expanding operations into more countries, integrating innovative recycling technologies, and developing new plastic alternatives that reduce long-term environmental harm. At the same time, Corsair focuses heavily on community impact, providing jobs, creating career paths, and improving living conditions in the areas where it operates.

Values That Drive Action

At its core, Corsair Group International stands for integrity, fairness, and long-term impact. The company builds real solutions, grounded in science, verified by independent experts, and driven by a sincere desire to leave a better world behind.

“We believe in protecting our planet and cleaning our environment from the plastic pollution that is killing it,” says Saloranta. “Our goal is not just to build a business, but to be part of the solution for one of the biggest crises of our time.”

For Saloranta, that means choosing what’s right—even if it’s not easy or immediately profitable. Corsair’s projects are built with the long view in mind: sustainability that actually sustains.

A New Era of Environmental Responsibility

As plastic waste continues to choke ecosystems and endanger communities worldwide, solutions like those pioneered by Corsair Group International become not just valuable but necessary. Under Saloranta’s leadership, Corsair has positioned itself as a force of transformation: agile, transparent, and unrelentingly focused on results.

Through initiatives like the CPRS and CSR Plastic Credit program, Corsair Group International is helping redefine what responsible business looks like in the age of environmental crisis. And with an eye toward global expansion, the company is well on its way to becoming a key player in the circular economy.
