Executive Director Chad Hooper of the Professional Managers Association (PMA) – formed in 1981 by Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Managers as a national membership association representing the interests of professional managers, management officials and non-bargaining unit employees in the federal government and within the IRS – released the following statement regarding PMA’s Public Service Recognition Week Event:
“PMA is proud to partner with IRS Commissioner Chuck Rettig for our Public Service Recognition Week Event. Commissioner Rettig has displayed strong leadership during his term – he has listened to the needs of employees, brought expertise from his work in private sector tax administration, and signed novel partnerships with stakeholders like PMA to advance the interests of the American taxpayer. As manager and leader, Commissioner Rettig has set a strong example for the Service,” Hooper stated.
“We thank Commissioner Rettig for joining PMA to address current and retired IRS employees. This event was rooted in an acknowledgment that IRS employees have worked tirelessly through atypical conditions to deliver critical services to the American people. As the Service works to onboard thousands of new employees to address its significant inventory backlog, it is vital we recognize and appreciate all these employees’ hard work,” Hooper continued.
“The IRS funds 96 percent of all government operations. During Public Service Recognition Week, we remember that the IRS is not a vague distant entity; it is a collaboration among many thousands of dedicated Americans working to ensure their government can function for the people it serves. These employees fund our freedom,” Hooper said. “Once again, we thank Commissioner Rettig for joining PMA during the last Public Service Recognition Week of his tenure, and we thank all the dedicated employees of the IRS for their service.”
“For more than 40 years, PMA has advocated on behalf of IRS managers, management officials, non-bargaining unit workers, leadership development program participants and retirees,” said IRS Commissioner Chuck Rettig. “PMA’s advocacy role will be an important component of our efforts going forward, as we rebuild and reskill our workforce. Doing so is vital, because our employees are the heart and soul of this agency and continue performing heroic work in service to the American people.”
