The U.S. Trade and Development Agency has awarded a grant to El Salvador’s National Administration of Aqueducts and Sewers (ANDA) for technical assistance to help strengthen the resilience of the country’s water sector. Specifically, USTDA’s assistance will provide recommendations for energy efficiency and renewable energy solutions to enhance the resilience and efficiency of El Salvador’s water infrastructure. ANDA selected Washington D.C.-based Resource Mobilization Advisors to perform the technical assistance.
“It takes a lot of energy to deliver safe drinking water. Our partnership with ANDA will help increase the efficiency, reliability, and environmental sustainability of its infrastructure,” said Enoh T. Ebong, USTDA’s Director. “For the people of El Salvador, this will mean having access to water even when the country’s infrastructure is stressed because of weather events or natural disasters. Our assistance will also help create business opportunities for U.S. firms in the energy efficiency and renewable energy fields.”
USTDA’s technical assistance will evaluate ANDA’s facilities and provide recommendations for implementing energy efficient equipment and on-site renewable generation. Implementation of these recommendations would lead to multiple benefits including lowering operational costs, reduced energy consumption, and meeting the country’s sustainability and clean energy goals.
The President of the National Administration of Aqueducts and Sewers, Rubén Alemán, noted: “This project would help improve our country’s water infrastructure by increasing reliability in our system. The upgrades for these energy efficiency measures will ensure high water quality for residents throughout El Salvador and help support our country’s clean energy objectives.”
U.S. Charge d’Affaires Katherine Dueholm said: “The United States government is committed to El Salvador to improve access to water for the Salvadoran population and promote sustainability and clean energy in the country. By working together, we can better adapt to the impacts of climate change and improve access to safe, reliable and clean water for the entire country.”
This technical assistance supports U.S. government priorities and initiatives, including the Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment (PGII), USTDA’s Global Partnership for Climate-Smart Infrastructure, and the Root Causes Strategy.
